I spotted this scene as we were driving down Route 64 after we had photographed herons in Pennsylvania. I immediately pulled off the road and backed up to get this shot. I didn't unload my tripod because there were wooden fence posts with flat tops on which to rest my camera.
The clouds cast a shadow over South Mountain, but opened up to allow the sun to illuminate the valley near Smithsburg.
(Photo info: f/22, 1/13 sec, ISO 100, 100 mm, camera steadied on top of a fence post), Smithsburg, Washington County, Maryland, January 29, 2006
